Chuck Laughlin

The name Chuck Laughlin is synonymous with St. Barts Yachts.  After graduating from the University of Illinois, Chuck spent 10 years in the Middle East and Far East working for Schlumberger in the oilfields.  In 1986 he returned to the US to start a development company.  In 1987, while building Harborgate Marina in N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Chuck decided to open a yacht brokerage and teamed up with the newly built Beneteau Marion actory.  In the first ten years St Barts expanded their dealership territory from Horry County to SC, NC, GA and TN.  In the fall of 1996 St Barts relocated to Charleston, SC with the move of Beneteau corporate.  Soon after Chuck opened locations in Oriental, NC and Jacksonville, FL to better represent his Southeast clientele. After almost 30 years, Chuck still loves the yachting business.  As an engineer he derives great satisfaction from putting a boat together well, from just the spark of an idea to the final commissioning details.  He takes great pride in the relationships he has formed over the years with boat owners, watching them enjoy their new boats. Chuck is an avid sailor and boater.  He is just as happy taking his wife Lisa and their 2 kids sailing as he is taking his ten closest friends out motoring in Charleston harbor.  When not at work, you can often find Chuck relaxing at the James Island Yacht Club.

Chuck: On behalf of the organizing committee of the Southern Collegiate Offshore Regatta and the Charleston Ocean Racing Association, I would like to express our extreme gratitude to you and St Barts Yachts for your generosity in lending your vessel for our collegiate event. Your hospitality made our event a truly wonderful experience for the college sailors and the CORA boat owners.
Dear Mr. Laughlin, I thought I’d take a moment to let you know how satisfied we were with St. Bart’s Yachts and, in particular with Andy Roberts. We had owned a Catalina 320 for about 13 years and decided to sell. Having no experience in selling a sailboat we, on the recommendation of several friends and knowledgeable local people, enlisted the help of Andy Roberts to act as our broker. The process couldn’t have been easier for us. Andy responded to our inquiry within an hour, met with us at our convenience, fully explained the process he followed, and gave us an honest appraisal of his sense of the value of the property when we asked for help in setting a fair price. Although we were 3 hours away from the boat,  we do know from those at the marina just how many prospective buyers he met with to show the boat. And he was diligent in keeping us informed about how things were progressing, When an offer was made and accepted (within weeks-not the months we expected) he walked us through the necessary paperwork which we would have had a hard time negotiating ourselves.  We do know that the buyer was also impressed with Andy’s knowledge of boats and the industry having met him to tour the boat.  To say we were completely satisfied would be an understatement. We will now be in the group that will recommend Andy and St. Barts in the future. Sincerely,
Jim and Babs Brown, Durham, NC
We would like to thank you and your staff for providing such excellent service to our Beneteau First 42s7 named “Wave Equation,” formerly known as “Vivace.” Toe trip ftom her home pm in Jacksonville to Charlestoo was richly rewarded. Toe lengthy list of repairs, improvements, and maintenance projects was completed in a manner beyond our expectatioos. We particularly have appreciated the hand holds added to the binnacle and the forward cabin. The work done at St Barts Yachts added greatly to our confidence, safety, and enjoyment during our recent two month sojoutn in the Bahamas, traveling as far south as Long Island and Georgetown in the Exumas.
We especially would like to tbank Jean-Michel Morisson, Phil Denick, and Eddie Brown. Each of them made their own unique contribution. They were personable, attentive, responsive, and tolerant of us. At the sarne time, we very much enjoyed their individual personalities and nationalities!
We had hoped to see Wayne Burdick again on bis beautiful Beneteau 411 in the Abacos but our paths did not cross this year. We wanted to personally express our thanks to him for the service provided at St. Barts Yachts. Our experience there has made us loyal Beneteau owners. We hope to see the St. Barts family at the Annapolis boat show in October.
