A Great Bluewater Cruiser

Deliverance is a Nauticat 40 and was manufactured by Sitala Yachts in Rihikoski, Finland in 1985. She is A Sparkman & Stephens Design.

Her LOA is 39’5”; Beam 13’1”; Draft 5’9”; Displacement 30,865; Gross Tons 21; Net Tons 19 She is a cutter rigged ketch, giving her a very flexible sail plan.

Excess buoyancy in her bow and stern, enables her to ride well in exceptionally heavy seas.

Her raised rear deck keeps her cockpit dry in heavy weather; Breaking seas flow unobstructed off the rear of the deck. All of the pilot house windows are equipped with 3/8” Lexan storm windows.

THE ORIGINAL 90 HP FORD LEHMAN ENGINE WAS REPLACED WITH A 110 HP YANMAR TURBO

DIESEL

In 2007, Deliverance’s original 90 HP Ford Lehman diesel engine was replaced with a 110 HP Yanmar Turbo Diesel (4JH4-HTE)

At 2400 rpm in 1’ to 2’ seas Deliverance will cruise at 7.5 knots, with a fuel burn of 2.1 GPH.

Under these conditions, with a total fuel capacity of 187 Gals, Deliverance’s cruising range (engine only) would be 668

The Auxiliary Engine has been serviced annually by certified Yanmar mechanics; The most recent service was completed Feb, 2017; Engine Hours at this time were 1,266 Hrs. The Borg Warner Velvet Drive transmission was replaced in 2012 22” Maxiprop was rebuilt by factory 2015

Electrical and Fuel

Diesel Generator

FOR HEAVY 120V LOADS THE 9.5KW DIESEL GENERATOR

While at anchor, heavier 120V loads are carried by a 9.5KW Phasor Marken Diesel Generator.

This would include operation of the battery chargers, heat pumps, water heater, microwave, refrigerator, hair dryers, etc.

This unit has been serviced professionally on an annual basis.

Last service was performed in Feb 2017; Engine hours at this time were 171 hours.

Unit is equipped with two Racor Filters and a wall mounted vacuum gauge located in the Pilot House.

Fuel System

THE FUEL SYSTEM HAS BEEN DESIGNED FOR MAXIMUM RELIABILITY & EASE OF SERVICE

The fuel tanks are saddle mounted and were constructed using coated steel; Capacity of Starboard Tank is 72 Gals; Capacity of Port Tank is 115 Gals; Total Fuel Capacity is 187 Gals.

Both tanks have a sloped bottom with a low point drain, which facilitates the removal of bottom sediment and water. Removal of water and sediment minimizes the potential for biological growth & sludge formation in the fuel and microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC) in the fuel tanks.

The fuel system is equipped with its’ own polishing system; the recirculation pump suction pulls from the low point drains on each of the tanks.

Fuel Levels are measured using a two probe Hart Systems Tank Tender as well as the original fuel gauges; Calibration curves have been made for each fuel tank.

Battery System

STORAGE BATTERIES FOR 12V SYSTEM

The battery bank was enlarged in 2001 to compensate for a 1.5o list to port caused by the installation of the new generator; alternative to adding lead ballast

The battery banks are comprised of 6 pairs of 6V deep cycle golf cart batteries; each pair wired in series to create

The pairs are connected in parallel to form the House Bank (1,125 amp-hrs capacity @ 12V) and the Engine Start Bank (225 amp-hrs capacity @ 12V); Total Capacity 1,350 amp-hrs @ 12V

All of the batteries were replaced in 2015

Batteries are Interstate wetted lead/acid batteries and have the highest storage capacity per Lb of battery weight The 6V deep cycle golf cart batteries are more easily replaced than the massive marine type 12V batteries, should one or more go bad

Battery Charging System

In 2014, the smart chargers were replaced with NEWMAR Phase Three Smart Chargers (Model PT-70a); Each unit is rated at 60AMPS (115V)

In 2014, the alternator on the Yanmar engine was upgraded to a 120 AMP alternator

Inverter

INVERTER FOR LIGHTER 120V LOADS

For lighter loads, the inverter would be used

Deliverance’s 12V battery system has 1350 AMP-hrs of storage capacity and a Heart 2500 26 AMP Inverter (120V) Used for operating laptop computers, boat WiFi; charging batteries on hand held devices etc. Good for operating 120V medical devices such as CPAP machines etc.

Shore Power System

SHORE POWER AT DOCKSIDE

In 2014, the original 30AMP 120V shore power system was replaced with a 50AMP 240V system. The new system has a reverse polarity and ELCI detector to protect the shore power system.

120V SHORE POWER SUPPLY TO THE 30AMP 120V PANEL

The balance of power from the 50AMP 240V Breaker supplies the 30AMP 120V Panel.

A new panel mounted digital multimeter was installed as part of the upgrade.

Now we can make coffee in the morning without having to monitor the AMP draw on the 30 amp panel and turning off one of the heat pumps or some other device to prevent opening the 30 AMP breaker.

12V PANEL

The original 12V Panel was rebuilt in 2015; All of circuit breakers were replaced; Fortunately, we were able to reuse the original Nauticat breaker box.

The 12V system includes the hydraulic steering system (with plumbed and wired spare hydraulic pump), autopilot, radar, instruments, navigation lights, propane detector, H2 Gas Mitigation System, RO System, freezer, SSB Radio, VHF Radio, interior lights, cooler, oil change pump and the inverter.

Tankage

Water Tanks, Reverse Osmosis, Heat Pumps

Deliverance can store 198 gals of potable water in two S/S Tanks located midships under the Galley floor; Both tanks are equipped with Tank Tenders

She has an 80 gallon per day Pur 12V Reverse Osmosis Unit to convert sea water into potable water; This unit has never been used due to large capacity of potable water tanks.

Deliverance also has two Cruise Air 16,600 BTU Reverse Cycle Heat Pumps; These units are probably oversized for the service that they see; However, they work extremely well

One heat pump is located in the Galley and supplies the Forward Cabin, Galley and Pilot House

The second heat pump is located in the Aft Cabin, supplies the Aft Cabin and provides supplemental heating and cooling to the Pilot House

Reverse Cycle Heat Pumps

120V SHORE POWER SUPPLY TO THE REVERSE CYCLE HEAT PUMPS

Power from the 240V breaker is split, with half going to the breakers supplying the two 120V 16,600 BTU Reverse Cycle Heat Pumps and the balance supplying the old 30AMP 120V Panel.

The breakers for the heat pumps are located in the locker shown.

On the wall of the Pilot House above the locker is a multimeter for monitoring the quality of the current supplying the heat pumps.

Important in the Bahamas.

Her sails were all built by North Sails using heavy-duty Nordac, for exceptional strength and durability sails were cleaned, inspected and repaired as indicated on annual basis, by professional sailmakers.

Deliverance’s ground tackle consists of a primary S120 Spade Anchor (55 lbs) shackled to 340’ of 5/ 16” High Test Chain.

The secondary anchor is a 70 lb CQR.

Deliverance is also equipped with a 35Lb Danforth stern anchor with 200’ of 1⁄2” rode.

Deliverance has a drogue with 600’ of 5/8”rode with a S/S swivel.

Her windlass is a 12V LeFranz Tigres with 2 gypsies (3/8 BBB and 5/16” Hi-test) and two deck mounted foot peddles.
